The Magpies have submitted multiple bids for the 24-year-old – the latest understood to be worth £65million – but are yet to reach an agreement. Palace owner Steve Parish recently labelled Guehi a “superstar” and therefore wants superstar money.

Guehi has captained the Eagles in their opening two Premier League matches against Brentford and West Ham United, both of which have ended in defeats, and Morrison believes the latter will be his last.

“He will be at Newcastle next week, 100%,” Morrison told Sky Sports News. “Marc Guehi will be a Newcastle player next week. I think it will happen. It will definitely happen. That’s my opinion – 100% it will happen. They’re not miles apart.

“That’s Eddie Howe’s No.1 target, he didn’t have anyone else in mind. He said to his board, ‘go and get Marc Guehi’. He’s got two years left at Palace. To try and get something like £70m for Marc Guehi, I think he’d be fantastic.”

The Euro 2024 star is Eddie Howe’s No.1 defensive target. Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing for three weeks.

It is hoped progress will be made early next week, otherwise Newcastle are prepared to explore alternative to Guehi. Bayern Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan, Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw and Axel Disasi and Trevoh Chalobah, both of Chelsea, have been mentioned.

United take on AFC Bournemouth this afternoon with Emil Krafth, a right-back by trade, set to deputise at centre-back with Fabian Schar banned for three games after an appeal to overturn his red card against Southampton last weekend was upheld.
