Nearly every player in the 2025 high school basketball recruiting class knows where he’ll be playing his college basketball next season. All but three of the top 50 players in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings remain uncommitted, and while most have already signed on the dotted line, five-star forward Nate Ament has only narrowed his recruitment down to his top five teams.
The 6-foot-9 Warrenton, Virginia native is the No. 4 player in the country and as he finally nears a commitment, his decision will come down to Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, and Tennessee.
Ament has long been favored to head to Lexington as the centerpiece of Mark Pope’s second high school recruiting class. However, former Kentucky head coach John Calipari has made a late push, which has included a trip to Northern Virginia to watch Ament play one of his final high school games.
When Ament took his official visit to Kentucky back on February 11, some expected the Wildcats to land a commitment, but his recruitment remains an odyssey. While many teams are turning away from high school recruiting in favor of veteran transfer portal additions, Kentucky is looking to add to its three-player 2025 high school class, which is ranked No. 6 in the nation.
Kentucky and Tennessee are the only two of Ament’s five finalists that have not yet secured a commitment from a 2025 five-star recruit. However, the Wildcats do have three top 35 players in the country while Tennessee has only two commitments, neither ranking inside the 247Sports Composite Top 50.
Ament’s commitment is one of the last dominos yet to fall in the recruiting cycle and could speed up the process for the other uncommitted players. The two other players in the national top 50 without a destination for 2025 are also five-stars, Koa Peat and Brayden Burries.
