Steve Sarkisian and Texas recruiting is on just an absurd hot streak. They officially brought in the top overall recruiting class in the nation for 2025. Their 2026 quarterback and a couple key offensive pieces are already in place for next cycle. The official visits continue to stack up for the spring and summer. The momentum is evident for Texas.
Now, even the players who many thought were long shot targets for the Longhorns are starting to rank Texas inside their final schools heading into spring football action. As of this weekend the Longhorns just shocked some top programs by apparently still having a hat in the ring to land another elite recruit.
Naeem Burroughs, Four Star WR Recruit
Naeem Burroughs, an extremely highly rated four star wide receiver recruit from Jacksonville, Florida just announced his four official visits for the summer and Texas surprisingly will close things out near the end of June as perhaps his final point of contact before he commits.
This was a bit shocking considering the momentum that the Florida Gators had been generating recently, but Texas wasn’t the only surprise school to earn an official visit.
For months many experts believed star wide receiver Naeem Burroughs would just simply commit early to Florida since they were his first offer, they’re the in-state school, and could likely offer early playing time opportunities. Not to mention Billy Napier and his staff continue to stack up the unofficial visits with him too.
However, neither Burroughs nor his verifiably freaky track speed seem to be in a rush to make a decision here. And he isn’t afraid to throw some curve balls with who might be his “finalists” as his commitment date (likely this summer) nears. Burroughs had spent significant time with Florida State, Wisconsin, and even Alabama early on in his recruitment, so to see none of those programs land an official visit was a bit strange. Instead three late entrants in Texas, Clemson, and USC will get their chance.
Steve Sarkisian and Texas likely have a few potential pitches that might lock in Burroughs once he’s finally on campus. The Longhorns have demonstrated they aren’t afraid to start players early on if they earn the opportunity like with Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore Jr. this past season. Five star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett likely locks in a starting spot as a true freshman this year too. Opportunity has consistently been mentioned as one of the most important things for Burroughs.
The Longhorns also have immense recent success and the possibility to play with Arch Manning to fall back on too. Conversely, USC has been a dumpster fire as of late. Clemson made the playoff this past year, but they’re trending in the wrong direction record-wise with eight losses across the last two seasons. The main competition for Burroughs’ services is still going to be Florida.
We’ll see if Sarkisian tries to get Burroughs in for an unofficial visit this spring ahead of the summer’s final pitch. That would likely go a long way towards closing the likely gap between the Longhorns and the Gators in the race for Burroughs.
