The Los Angeles Rams have yet to receive a suitable trade offer for Cooper Kupp, but they have reportedly decided they will not bring the veteran wide receiver back next season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Rams are planning to release Kupp after the start of the new league on Wednesday if they are unable to trade the 31-year-old.
Kupp revealed last month that the Rams had informed him they were planning to trade him. The former All-Pro said he has experienced some strong emotions over the decision but wants to leave Los Angeles on good terms.
It became even more evident that Kupp was not a part of the Rams’ future plans when they agreed to a two-year deal with Davante Adams on Sunday.
Kupp was limited to 12 games in each of the past two seasons because of injuries. He had 67 catches for 710 yards and six touchdowns this past season.
Kupp had a breakout season in 2021, when he caught 145 passes for 1,947 yards. Both marks rank second all-time for a single season in NFL history. The Rams won the Super Bowl that year, but Kupp has since been surpassed on L.A.’s depth chart by Puka Nacua.
While Kupp is nowhere near as explosive as he was a few years ago, he should have no problem finding a new home in free agency.
