4 free agents the Eagles can’t afford to let get away this offseason

Posted on February 28, 2025 by admin
Zack Baun, Philadelphia Eagles

So, this is what the ‘twilight zone’ feels like. The Philadelphia Eagles are the Super Bowl Champions, and they are so because they drug the Kansas City Chiefs all over the Caesars Superdome.

We DID NOT for the life of us see this game unfolding as it did. Sure, we predicted the Birds would win. Yes, we thought it was possible they’d win by two scores and, if K.C. won, they’d do so because Philly imploded.

Never in a million years did we think Philly would score 40, nor did we think they’d make beating the Chiefs look as easy as it looked.

Oh crap! We are in the twilight zone!

Two Super Bowl wins in eight seasons… There will be another victory parade in Philadelphia. Hmmm… We wonder if Jason Kelce is available to speak.

This one is sweet (and sweet revenge). We’ll celebrate for a while. Then, it’s full speed ahead to free agency. There are a few guys we hope are signed to extensions.

First-Team All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun

We were ticked when the Eagles let T.J. Edwards walk, but Zack Baun has healed that wound. He’s gone from relative unknown to Pro Bowl player with a First-Team All-Pro nod on his resume.

Extending Zack Baun has to be a top priority for our Eagles. We’d also like to see them inquire about the asking price to land Myles Garrett.

Right Guard Mekhi Becton

Sometimes, players just need a change of scenery and better coaching. Check that box for Zack Baun. Check another for Mekhi Becton.

The latter is a former first-rounder the NY Jets called a bust. He’s now a Super Bowl champion. Who’s laughing now?

Becton signed a one-year deal on April 29. He’s more than proven all he needed was a second chance.

If brought back on a team-friendly deal, you wouldn’t hear a complaint from us. He’s found a home with Jeff Stoutland University, and honestly, we hope he sticks around for a while.

Defensive Tackle Milton Williams

Interior defensive linemen who can stuff the run and provide talented pass-rushing ability are rare. Milton Williams is a beast.

Keeping him as part of this great rotation that includes Jalen Carter, Moro Ojomo, and Jordan Davis would keep the Birds in the winner’s circle for at least another handful of seasons.

Long Snapper Rick Lovato

Signing a long snapper isn’t sexy. Keeping your long-snapper is a necessity though. When you find one as good as Rick Lovato, you should hold onto him.

Worth mentioning: Edge Rusher Josh Sweat

Josh Sweat recently signed with Drew Rosenhaus. He’s looking to get paid… He probably will get paid, but will his top suitor be an Eagles team he’s called home for his entire career?

This is something to watch. There’s only so much money to go around, and if we’re being honest, Sweaty, as much as we love him, would be the last guy we paid on this list.

The first four guys are more of a priority. Plus, if Philly added Myles Garrett, Sweat might, all of a sudden seem more expendable almost instantly.
