Tennis star Novak Djokovic has announced he’s withdrawing from the Paris Masters, hinting this might mark the close of his season. Djokovic, who’s had a Grand Slam-free year, broke the news to fans via an Instagram post.
His message read: “Unfortunately I won’t be playing Paris Masters this year. Sorry to everyone who was hoping to see me play there.”
“Wishing all the players, sponsors, organisers and fans a great tournament. I have a lot of memories winning seven titles there and hope to be back with you next year.”
Djokovic, last year’s Paris Masters victor after defeating Grigor Dimitrov, claimed his sole 2024 trophy at the Olympics, where he snagged the elusive gold by overcoming Carlos Alcaraz.
Now 37, Djokovic has seen his tennis supremacy challenged by Jannik Sinner, the new champion of both the Australian Open and U.S. Open. Despite making it to the Wimbledon final, Djokovic fell to Alcaraz in a straight-set defeat.
The Serbian could still hit the courts for the ATP Finals in Turin next month. He’s currently ranked sixth for the eight-player event but faces potential displacement in the lead-up to the tournament.
The reason behind Djokovic’s Paris Masters withdrawal remains undisclosed, though he has previously expressed difficulty in mustering enthusiasm for smaller-scale tournaments.
During a press conference at the French Open earlier in the year, the tennis icon shared his motivations: “It’s true that I’m focused pretty much solely on Grand Slams and Olympics this year and playing for my country, really. That’s something that really drives me the most today.
