Real Madrid are reportedly not ruling out the possibility of signing long-time target Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, although they recognize that such a move is highly unlikely, reports Rodra.
It is no secret that Real Madrid are actively looking for solutions to strengthen their squad, particularly in the defensive areas, with a focus on both central defenders and right-backs.
For the central defender position, two names have emerged as possible targets: Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba. However, both transfers appear to be very difficult to pursue due to the high financial costs involved.
What about Alexander-Arnold?
When it comes to the right-back position, Alexander-Arnold has become the club’s top priority. Real Madrid have set their sights on signing him, with plans to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu next season, as he will be a free agent in the summer.
Negotiations are said to be progressing with the player, and there is optimism within the club about securing his signature.
However, while Real Madrid have not completely ruled out the possibility of signing Alexander-Arnold in January, they acknowledge that making such a deal happen in the winter transfer window is practically impossible.
The Liverpool right-back has reportedly turned down renewal offers from his current club but is keen to leave in a dignified manner, ideally with titles in hand, rather than in the middle of a season. This makes a January move to Real Madrid extremely challenging.
Analysis needed
The club’s plan to bring Alexander-Arnold in the summer is a positive one for Los Blancos, but it also complicates their options for the upcoming transfer window.
They are currently exploring other right-back options to cover the gaps left by injured players like Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao.
However, given that Alexander-Arnold is expected to join in June, and Carvajal will return to fitness by then, investing in a new right-back for the short term does not seem like the best use of resources.
Therefore, Real Madrid will likely delay any major decisions until the summer, when Alexander-Arnold can join as part of their long-term plans.
