Those initial concerns may not be reality, though.
Before the team’s 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, multiple reports from networks like ESPN and NFL Network announced that the Jets’ openings for head coach and general manager are not as unattractive as originally thought.
“The Jets have used this latest round of criticism of Woody Johnson as a rallying cry inside the building to restore pride this offseason,” Mike Garafolo said. “With significant interest in their GM and coaching jobs, they’re confident they’ll do so.”
Garafolo’s comments were echoed by other national reporters around the league.
So Woody Johnson is not perceived as an obstacle here? Interesting.
There are obvious reasons why the Jets will be an attractive job moving forward. New York has a collection of stars along both sides of the ball, plenty of cap space, and is expected to have a top-10 draft pick this year.
Add in the caveat that any coach/general manager pairing could become legends with a single winning season, and there’s reason for the opening to be an attractive one in a couple of weeks.
So as the losses continue to mount, there should be somewhat of a positive spin that the team’s struggles may be soon coming to an end.
