FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys are not only embroiled in a self-created soap opera with lame-duck coach Mike McCarthy.
“America’s Team” may also be involved in a soap opera regarding the coach’s majestic DFW home.
As we first reported exclusively on Nov. 18, McCarthy – in the final year of his five-year contract with Jerry Jones’ Cowboys – put up for sale his Dallas-area mansion in July.
McCarthy’s realtor sealed a deal with a buyer in early November. … but a few days later, that deal had fallen through, so the $5.7 million home was one again available. (Again, see our original reporting here.)
But then came one more wrinkle: The glorious estate was suddenly taken off the market.
Why? The Cowboys were 3-7 at the time, and conventional wisdom had it that Jones was keen on letting McCarthy play out 2024 before the owner oversaw a coaching change. So it wasn’t about some newfound job security (something that now, six weeks later with Dallas at 7-9 suddenly seems viable).
As of the sale? McCarthy wasn’t going to need his $5.7 million mansion in Allen, located about 10 miles from team headquarters at the Star in Frisco. And one of the reasons why is that he’d also purchased another mansion, this one valued at $2 million.
And interestingly enough, as CowboysCountry.com reported first, it so happens that McCarthy purchased that second home after the 2023 season from assistant Dan Quinn when he moved to Washington to take over the Commanders.
But a source – one of the same people close to the situation who first turned us on to all of this private dealings – is now offering what we will frame carefully as a rumor.
We asked, “Why did McCarthy take the $5.7 million house off the market?”
Answer: “Because Jerry asked him to.”

Does that mean Jones has made a secret promise to McCarthy to re-hire him? Or does it simply mean that Jones found it an embarrassing nuisance that his coach had a “For Sale” sign in his front yard in the middle of the season?

Either way, it seems like this property – with its fashionable Mediterranean exterior and its contemporary interior) and its 8,346 square feet that features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a full workout room, a sauna and an incredible backyard featuring a gorgeous swimming pool, all inside a private gated community – is has not necessarily been the McCarthy clan’s full-time home base. …
Because again, while McCarthy was trying to sell his $5.7 million mansion he also kept ownership of that Frisco-area $2 million pad once owned by Quinn, who as it happens is in charge of a playoff-bound Commanders team that visits the Cowboys this weekend in a regular-season finale.
So, this weekend, if “Big Mike” and “DQ” want to hang out together in the Frisco area? There is plenty of square footage in which to do it … in part maybe because Jerry Jones’ down-low nudge
