Whether Packers quarterback Jordan Love regressed in 2024 is debatable, but, the second-year starter was unable to lead Green Bay back even to the NFC Divisional Playoffs, let alone a conference championship game while seemingly not making much progress in his development, either.

Love finished the 2024 season as a 63.1 percent passer for 3,389 yards and 25 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 15 games.

Now that the Packers have shifted into offseason mode, head coach Matt LaFleur believes that improving on a critical aspect of Love’s skill set could go a long way toward improving what became an underachieving offense down the stretch.

“The one thing I did talk to him about was just the consistency of his footwork on some of these plays,” LaFleur told reporters. “I think the foundation of great quarterback play is the fundamentals, the techniques, the footwork. And I think we experienced that with him this year when he wasn’t practicing.

“It wasn’t quite as crisp. So I do think back to the injury deal that was a big deal when he wasn’t practicing. And just how conscious we have to be about all the fundamentals when we are practicing. So that’ll be on the forefront of our minds all the time.”

While the Packers’ struggles on offense go beyond Love, given that Green Bay’s receivers led the league in dropped passes and LaFleur’s play-calling in the playoff loss to the Eagles seemingly getting away from Josh Jacobs and the running game in a postseason loss, Love is going to need to be better in 2025.

After all, Love finished the season ranked 25th in completion percentage while passing for just 185 yards and one touchdown in a critical loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17.

Whether it is improving his footwork, working with an improved and more consistent receiving corps, getting better against man-coverage, or some combination of all three elements of his skill set, the Packers are going to need much more from Love next season in order to climb the hierarchy in the NFC.
