We are getting close to the Super Bowl which means we are only less than 100 days until the NFL draft.
One of the next major events the Browns have to look forward to is the draft, where they once again have a first-round pick. Cleveland had given the Houston Texans their last three first-round picks.
Cleveland is still in search of their franchise quarterback despite the big swing for Deshaun Watson. The Browns have a couple of ways they can address quarterback, including free agency. Still, the Browns have to draft a quarterback at some point. Whether they decide to do that in the first round or not is likely something we won’t know until April.
In the latest NFL mock draft from A to Z Sports, the Browns pass on a quarterback in the first round.
Cleveland Browns select Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick
“Cleveland very much needs a reset under center, but the veteran market may be more appealing this time around. Hunter would potentially give the Browns much-needed dynamic ability out wide, or help to find a consistent running mate with Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward.” — Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports
There is a bit of a risk in selecting Hunter if you are set on him being a player who works out on both sides of the football. Ideally, I think that the star cornerback can come in and be a starting cornerback opposite of Ward while having a package of plays on offense. Holding up all game on both sides of the football in the NFL isn’t going to work like it did in Colorado. I would love to be proven wrong here, but I just don’t see that happening.
Hunter is a great athlete who is a problem in space on offense and has lockdown ability on defense. There is no telling how long the Browns will have Ward, who has a long concussion history. Hunter could eventually be the No. 1 cornerback for the team, he has that potential.
There is a bit of time before the Browns can turn their card in and the Tennessee Titans’ pick at No. 1 will impact what they can do. However, the Browns are going to have options.
