Charlie McAvoy is expected to make his return to the Boston Bruins lineup today, after being out since January 11th when the Bruins finished their moms trip.
Since leaving the lineup with an injury, Mason Lohrei has taken over the top power play unit on the blue line, and the power play has been much better.
At practice this morning Joe Sacco made a controversial move with Charlie McAvoy that fans are not happy with.
It was reported at practice today that Charlie McAvoy was taking reps with the Boston Bruins top power play unit which included Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, and Pavel Zacha.
Fans and analysis not happy with recent move involving Charlie McAvoy
Since Mason Lohrei took over the top power play unit after McAvoy was on the sideline with an injury, it has seen a 12.1% increase in effectiveness, and fans are not happy that Lohrei is coming off and McAvoy is taking back over.
Giving Charlie McAvoy the benefit of the doubt, it is possible that his play this season has been subpar due to a lingering injury, and since it’s healed maybe his game ends up turning around.
This season Charlie McAvoy has appeared in 45 games for the Boston Bruins and has just 5 goals, 15 assists for 20 points.
Regardless, if the power play doesn’t click, Sacco needs to instanly make the change back and put Mason Lohrei back on the top power play unit.
