Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions had their season cut short in the NFL playoffs, following a phenomenal regular season.
Detroit entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a 15-2 record. Despite the first-round bye and all of the hype surrounding Detroit, the Lions’ season was halted with a home loss to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round.
As Goff and the Lions embark on the offseason, the quarterback took to social media to share some exciting news regarding a recent investment he’s made.
“I’m thrilled to join this inspiring group of leaders as we work to bring a WNBA team to Detroit!” Goff said. “This is an incredible opportunity for our vibrant community and the most passionate fans in the country!”
Goff is joining an investment group led by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores as they look to submit a bid to bring back the WNBA to Detroit.
Other investors for the major project include NBA legends Grant Hill and Chris Webber, who both have strong ties to the city.

The city was home to the Detroit Shock from 1998-2009. The franchise won WNBA titles in 2003, 2006 and 2008 but relocated to Tulsa from 2010-15 and is now the Dallas Wings (2016-present).
As the WNBA surges in terms of popularity, largely due to stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, people like Goff are buying in to possible expansion opportunities.
