The Hockey Show: Top 5 fictional hockey players, Jeff Marek out at Sportsnet

Roy and Dave had very different lists as each clearly valued certain attributes in their Top 5 rankings

A surprise departure in the hockey media industry made headlines last week and was a main topic on this week’s episode of The Hockey Show.

Jeff Marek, longtime hockey host and journalist, was suddenly no longer working for Sportsnet.

According to a detailed story in The Athletic, the reason may be over Marek sharing privileged, rightsholder information on NHL Draft selections with an acquaintance who works in the media.

It’s an intricate story that we may never fully know the details of, but it certainly leads to some interesting conversations.

Also on this week’s show, hosts Roy Bellamy and David Dwork pick up where they left off last week, when they gave their Top 5 hockey movies.

This time, Roy and Dave were tasked with ranking their Top 5 fictional hockey players.

Here is the group they had to choose from:

Dean Youngblood (Youngblood), Derek Sutton (Youngblood), Reg Dunlop (Slap Shot), Ned Braden (Slap Shot), Charlie Conway (The Mighty Ducks), Adam Banks (The Mighty Ducks), Julie Gaffney (The Mighty Ducks), Gunnar Stahl (The Mighty Ducks), Gordon Bombay (The Mighty Ducks), Xavier Laflamme (Goon), Ross Rhea (Goon), Stevie Weeks (Mystery, Alaska), Connor Banks (Mystery, Alaska), Agent Michael Scarn (The Office), Jean-Jacques François Jacques-Jean (Shoresy), Shoresy (Shoresy), Bart Simpson (The Simpsons), Lisa Simpson (The Simpsons), Darren Roanoke (The Love Guru), Otto Rocket (Rocket Power), Derek Thompson (Tooth Fairy)
