Leicester City transfer hijack in doubt as ‘£25m deal agreed’

Yaser Asprilla in action for Colombia against Costa Rica at Copa America

Leicester City’s efforts to hijack Yaser Asprilla’s move to Rennes may have been in vain after Watford reportedly agreed a £25m fee with the French side for the attacker.

On Saturday, City were said to have stolen in for the Colombia international as they look to strengthen their forward options. Now, the Athletic report that Watford and Rennes have shaken on a £25m fee for the 20-year-old with add-ons.

Personal terms have not been agreed, with Asprilla now said to be considering the move. but it seems City will have to pay big bucks to get him to the King Power Stadium.

A left-footed right-sided winger who can also play centrally, Asprilla has a similar profile to Matias Soule, the Argentinian forward who rejected City’s advances to move to Roma. If City miss out on Asprilla as well, it will be yet more transfer frustration for the club, who are closing in on three weeks without a new signing
