The first (Preseason) Coaches Poll of the year has the Rebels slotted in as the No. 6 team in the country, and ranked as the fourth-best SEC team heading into the season. The ranking is on par with most outside expectations for Ole Miss. Georgia reclaimed their top spot (46 first place votes) with Texas (No. 4) and Alabama (No. 5) just in front of the Rebels.
Ole Miss reached uncharted territory last season with an overachieving 11-win campaign that nobody expected. The Rebels are once again reaching uncharted territory, on paper, but will have to materialize that this fall. Ole Miss’ No. 6 ranking is their highest Preseason Coaches Poll mark going into a year since their No. 10 ranking just ahead of the 2009 season.
Ole Miss football keeps pouring on the preseason accolades, whether that’s been player or team recognized, but understands that his team must steer clear of it. Especially in the universe of social media.
“In respect to Coach Saban, this is really, as he said, this is a rat-poison situation here to have all this attention on our players, and it means nothing because it’s all about the work that they put in — the process they do daily,” Kiffin noted this summer.
