The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Monday (12 August) that adding additional striking options to Erik ten Hag’s squad is not a priority for the Red Devils between now and the transfer deadline at the end of August.

United will only look to add an extra number nine if more stars are sold in the coming weeks, but the England international is one player on their radar currently.

Calvert-Lewin has entered the final year of his contract at Goodison Park and while an extension hasn’t yet been ruled out, a contract offer made by the Toffees is yet to be accepted by the forward [i News, 24 July].

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Manchester United transfer rumours?

Everton were always likely to be running the risk of losing Calvert-Lewin this summer as soon as the forward entered the final year of his contract and that is unlikely to go away before the end of the window.

Teams will know that they can likely sign the England international for a cut price between now and the end of August as Sean Dyche’s side will be eager to avoid losing a valuable asset for nothing in 12 months’ time.

Should United get a few big earners off of their wage bill in the next couple of weeks and raise some funds through player exits, they may well bite the bullet and try and prize the centre-forward away from Merseyside.

But at the moment, it seems as though the Toffees are in a good position to keep their primary source of goals at Goodison Park, even if only in the short term.

Hopefully, the Blues will be able to withstand any interest that arises between now and the end of the window and then convince Calvert-Lewin to put pen to paper on new terms.

Otherwise this speculation will continue when January rolls around.
