Cristian Romero has been praised once again by the Argentinean press as his valiant display helped his side edge out Ecuador to reach the semifinals of the Copa America.
The defending champions had breezed into the final eight of the competition, having won all three games in their group without conceding a single goal.
They thus came into the quarterfinal against Ecuador as big favourites but the game proved anything but easy as their opponents gave as good as they got, earning a deserved draw after 90 minutes, with Kevin Rodríguez’s stoppage-time equaliser ruling out Lisandro Martinez’s opener.
Argentina eventually emerged 4-2 winners on penalties at the NRG Stadium in Houston to keep their hopes of retraining the trophy alive.
