Champions League winning free agent has decided he wants to join West Ham this summer

West Ham United’s summer transfer window could be set to go from outstanding to unbelievably good over the course of the next week or so.

The summer transfer window has been a hugely productive one for Julen Lopetegui so far, with eight new players having joined West Ham.

Lopetegui has admitted himself that he’s far from finished with his summer business, with two top-class players required in every position at the London Stadium.

The West Ham head coach is obviously a very ambitious man, and the way he has gone about his business this summer has been hugely encouraging to see.

The squad left behind by David Moyes was an incredibly unbalanced and ageing one, and Lopetegui still has a lot of work left before he moulds the current group into his very own.

That will come with time, but for now, the priority for the Spaniard seems to be to move on as many fringe players as he can before the window slams shut.

However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any more new arrivals before August 30th.

Sergi Roberto wants West Ham move

Former Barcelona man Sergi Roberto has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium already this summer.

And now, according to a report from Sport (print edition August 22nd, page 8), the Spanish free agent has decided that he wants to join the Hammers above all other clubs.

That said, West Ham are still yet to make an official offer for the Spaniard.

The 11-capped Spain international is on the lookout for a new club this summer, having been released from Barcelona.

He is still a top-class player, so there definitely won’t be a shortage of offers for his services.

However, the fact that he apparently wants a move to the Hammers proves just how highly regarded we are as a club now.

What would Sergi Roberto bring to West Ham

Despite his age, I believe Roberto could be a very good signing for the Hammers, as long as he’s brought in on a short-term deal.

The Spaniard can operate as a right-back or in his original central midfield position.

Lopetegui still needs more competition in the right-back department, despite the recent signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Hammers head coach needs to upgrade upon Vladimir Coufal and the 32-year-old Spaniard would provide proper competition and cover for Wan-Bissaka.

Signing Sergi Roberto on a free transfer would be a way for West Ham to kill two birds with one stone, and a really cheap option at that.

The Champions League winner, who also has numerous La Liga titles to his name, would bring a much-needed winning mentality to the London Stadium.

Signing him should be a no-brainer for the Hammers as far as I’m concerned, as long as we can get rid of the likes of Danny Ings, Kurt Zouma and Maxwel Cornet first.
