Divin Mubama has signed his Manchester City contract after his West Ham United exit earlier this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via X on Saturday (24 August) that the forward has just pen to paper on his deal at the Etihad Stadium having left the Hammers as a free agent at the end of last season.

Julen Lopetegui’s side will earn £1.2million in training compensation now that the contract has been signed because Mubama is only 19 and rejected a new contract offer from the Irons prior to his departure.

Are West Ham close to any new signings ahead of the transfer deadline?

While this will not be the biggest transfer story around the London Stadium in the final days of the window, the Hammers are set to earn a nice little payday once this deal is confirmed by the player and the club.

There will be an element of frustration around East London that Mubama has chosen to sit on the Premier League champion’s bench rather than fight for his place at West Ham, but the Irons did what they could to keep him.

Ultimately, the teenager has decided that the grass is greener elsewhere. Whether or not that really is the case, only time will tell but few fans would have expected him to end up at the Etihad of all places this summer.

Now that Niclas Fullkrug has arrived at the London Stadium, Mubama’s opportunities may well have been limited in a Hammers shirt anyway with the German expected to become Lopetegui’s first-choice number nine with Danny Ings and Michail Antonio in support.

Even if it is a small seven-figure fee in modern footballing terms, at least the Irons have managed to pocket some money for the forward having spent a lot of time and effort helping his development in the past.
