Ole Miss to be without WR Jordan Watkins for season opener

Kickoff is as good as here for the 2024 Ole Miss Rebels as they’re about to take the field to play the Furman Paladins. One Rebel who wasn’t out dressed for pre game warm ups with the rest of the team was senior wide receiver Jordan Watkins.

Ole Miss’ veteran third-year pass catcher has been dealing with a nagging lower body injury over the last month and wasn’t listed on the team’s official Week 1 depth chart either. As addressed in Inside the Rebels’ Saturday’s Week 1 injury report, Watkins was listed as doubtful for the game along with centers Gerquan Scott and Caleb Warren. Sophomore wide receiver Cayden Lee will be getting his second career start (Peach Bowl) in place of Watkins in the slot.

Last year, Watkins thrived in his second year in Oxford, hauling in 53 receptions for 741 yards to go along with four total touchdowns. Watkins was a two-man starter for Ole Miss in 2023, playing the majority of his snaps at receiver while being the team’s primary punt returner.
