23-24 TCU Women’s Golf Recap
TCU Women’s Golf had a solid 2023-2024 campaign that concluded with the program’s all-time leader in career birdies, Lois Lau, competing in the NCAA Bryan Regional. The Frogs kicked off their season with the Sam Golden Invitational in Corinth, Texas at Oakmont Country Club. TCU finished in eighth place as a team in a field of 12 schools thanks to a good team score of nine-under-par. Sofia Barroso Sa was the Frogs’ best golfer in the tournament as she shot seven under through three rounds to finish in a tie for 13th individually. Lau joined her in the top 25 individual finishers, coming in at four under par, good to tie for 22nd place.
The Frogs next traveled to Norman, Oklahoma for the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club where they finished 14th out of a tough field of 15. Lau had a great tournament to lead the Frogs, shooting six under to finish in a tie for seventh place overall. Barroso Sa finished in a tie for 34th thanks to an excellent final round where she shot a four-under-par 66. TCU had another tough tournament when they traveled to Medinah, Illinois for the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah Country Club, finishing 14th out of 15 teams for a second straight tournament. Again, Lau was TCU’s best golfer as she finished at one-over-par and in a tie for 27th place. Barroso Sa and Megan Winans tied for 47th place for TCU, each at six over par through three rounds.
TCU bounced back with a solid showing at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas to wrap up their fall schedule where they finished tied for seventh in a field of 13 teams. The Frogs were in 11th place coming into the final round but set a program record with the lowest team score vs. par in the final round of 17 under to storm up the standings into seventh. Lau had an outstanding tournament, finishing in third place overall at 14-under-par across 54 holes. Both Lau and Barroso Sa shot seven-under-par 65s in the last round of the tournament. Barroso Sa and Winans both finished under par for the tournament at seven under and two under respectively.
The spring schedule started with a trip to Puerto Rico for the three-day Puerto Rico Classic tournament. The Frogs made it back-to-back good tournaments with a seventh-place finish in a field of 15 teams shooting nine over as a team. Both Lau and Barroso finished at one-under-par in the tournament and tied for 16th place. Kirstin Angosta was the third Frog in the top 30 finishers as she shot two over par, good for a tie for 27th place.
Next up was the Chevron Collegiate in Humble, Texas at the Golf Club of Houston where the Frogs finished in 13th place out of 16 teams with a team score of one under par. Angosta had her best tournament of the year leading all Frog golfers at nine-under-par and in a tie for sixth place overall. Lau joined Angosta under par with a score of four under in the tournament, landing her in a tie for 25th place. The Frogs had their highest finish of the year in their next tournament, tying for sixth place in The Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lau stole the show for the Frogs as she tied for second overall thanks to a great score of four under par in the tournament. Barroso Sa was the second-best golfer of the tournament for TCU, shooting six over par to finish in 26th overall.
The Frogs traveled to Tuscon, Arizona for their next tournament, the Mountainview Collegiate. TCU shot seven over as a team to finish in ninth out of 15 teams. Barroso Sa picked up a top-ten finish, shooting four under par to tie for eighth place. Lau was the second Frog to shoot under par as she finished in a tie for 17th thanks to a solid score of one under par. The Frogs closed out the regular season with their next tournament in Napa, California at the Silverado Showdown. TCU finished in a tie for seventh place out of a tough field of 16 teams that featured eight teams ranked in the top 25. Barroso Sa was the top finisher from TCU as she shot a solid four-over par to tie for 23rd. Three Frogs, Winans, Lau and Angosta, tied for 27th place at five over par each.
The postseason started with a trip to Hockley, Texas for the Big 12 Championship. The Frogs shot 30 over par as a team to finish in a tie for tenth place. Barroso Sa, Winans and Sofie Dimitrova all tied for 26th place to lead the Frogs, each shooting seven over par in the tournament.
