Simone Biles reveals true extent of her calf injury at the Olympics as trailer for second season of Netflix show drops

Posted on October 4, 2024 by admin

The second season of Simone Biles’ Netflix docuseries captures the dramatic moment she realized her calf had ‘pulled all the way’ on the first day of the Olympics.

Biles went on to capture three gold medals and a silver in Paris, which cemented her legacy as the most decorated American gymnast of all time.

However, she had to overcome an early injury scare in order to do so, after damaging her calf during a qualifying event on the first day of competition.

In the trailer for the second season of her Netflix show ‘Simone Biles Rising’, which drops on October 25, the Olympics legend can be seen discussing the full extent of her problem with a Team USA official.

‘My calf or something just pulled like all the way,’ a worried Biles says.

Despite the pain she was in, Biles refused to let it derail her in the French capital as she battled through the injury and added another three gold medals to her collection.

It marked an inspirational return to the top of gymnastics for the 27-year-old, who was forced to withdraw from a number of events at the Tokyo Games in 2021 due to mental-health issues.

The trailer for the Netflix docuseries also lifts the lid on Biles’ determined attitude heading into the Paris Olympics.

A reporter says about her calf injury in the qualifying round: ‘After the competition I asked, “How did you do it in so much pain?”

‘And [Biles] said, “I couldn’t have people tell me I was a quitter again.”‘

Biles shared the trailer for the second season of her docuseries on X and wrote: ‘so excited *love heart emoji* can’t wait for these episodes to drop!’

Her Netflix show could also help teammate Jordan Chiles win her Olympic bronze medal back, according to Front Office Sports.

Chiles, 23, has filed an appeal in a Swiss court as she attempts to get back the bronze she won in Paris, which was later stripped from her due to a Romanian query.

Her appeal is said to reveal that footage for ‘Simone Biles Rising’ – which had two episodes released before the Olympics with two more to come later this year – shows that Team USA figures did not miss the deadline to challenge her floor routine score on the day as claimed.

In Paris, the American was originally given fifth place on floor and a United States appeal, launched by coach Cecile Landi, raised her marks by one-tenth to third place behind Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and Biles.

Days after the Olympics, the Romanian athletic commission filed an appeal of the scores that dropped their athlete, Ana Barbosu, from the medal stand.

The appeal found the United States’ original challenge of the scores was filed four seconds too late and was invalid.

However, it is believed that USA gymnastics are convinced they have the video to their challenge was actually before the one-minute deadline – which comes from footage captured for Biles’ doc.
