Novak Djokovic went against security guards’ orders as he met fans at the Shanghai Masters.

The world No. 4 is playing the tournament for the first time in five years and believes he has received the most “intense” reaction yet.

It’s no surprise he feels that way, as Djokovic left his supporters screaming after encouraging them to flout the rules.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion greeted fans who had been waiting to meet him near the entrance of the tournament. There was a frenzy as Djokovic stepped towards the crowd and began signing autographs.

A security guard tried to control them, saying: “Alright, hey, shush. Be quiet.” But Djokovic wasn’t having it.

The 37-year-old jokingly stood behind the officer and raised his hands, whipping up even more noise.

His devotees didn’t hesitate. They immediately started cheering and shouting his name as the security guard bowed his head in defeat.

He then turned to Djokovic and shrugged as the world No. 4 lapped up the applause. And the 37-year-old continued as he made his way down the line of adoring fans.

While signing more items, he waved his arms up again and laughed with the security guard, who jokingly pushed him.

Djokovic has been enjoying the support in Shanghai after making his first appearance since 2019. After he beat Alex Michelsen in his opening match, he admitted he’d never felt anything like it.

After stating that he wanted to win the title again, Djokovic added: “You mentioned the fact that I haven’t been here five years, and I think that brings me extra motivation, particularly because of the love and support that I’ve been getting today and all these days here in Shanghai.

“It’s just remarkable. I’m very grateful to all the fans waiting in front of hotel, practice court here.

“I mean, I’ve been coming to China for so many years, but I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this, this level, this intensity of support, it’s just something that I’m very, how can I say, blessed with it, you know, very privileged to be in the position to be supported and followed by many people.

“China loves tennis, and as a tennis player, being part of a big event like Shanghai Masters is amazing, particularly this year.”
