The Miami Dolphins have dealt with their fair share of injuries during the 2024 season so far. With potential good news regarding Tua Tagovailoa looming ahead of Week 8, they just lost another offensive and special teams piece.
Dolphins place wide receiver on IR
Veteran wide receiver Braxton Berrios suffered a torn ACL in Week 7. He will miss the remained of the season, according to Adam Schefter.
With the move, the Dolphins also activated young cornerback Cam Smith from injured reserve. He played in fifteen games for the Dolphins in 2023 as a rookie. The DB suffered a hamstring injury in August.
Berrios has not recorded a reception this season. That lack of production follows a 2023 season in Miami, where he totaled 238 reclining yards and one touchdown on 27 catches. Berrios spent the first four years of his NFL career with the New York Jets.
Much of the veteran’s role for the Dolphins this season has been on special teams.
He’s returned seven punts, averaging 14.7 yards per return. He’s also returned three kickoffs for 76 yards. Berrios has been on the field for 37% of special teams snaps (58) for Miami this season.
For the Dolphins, they will have to adjust their depth chart after this move. They could look to add another veteran returner to replace Berrios going forward this season.
