The New York Jets, under new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, aren’t going to be floating through the offseason – they’re here to make changes.
With Aaron Rodgers’ future clearly the most important domino to fall, the Jets do have other players whose futures are less than certain.
Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson have seen their names in the media with uncertain futures and now Bleacher Report has thrown up another candidate who could be shipped off in the offseason – Allen Lazard.
“Even if the Jets don’t cut ties with the veteran quarterback, they still have to consider cutting ties with a vestige of the Rodgers era,” Bleacher Report writes. “That means releasing Allen Lazard ahead of free agency. The longtime teammate of the former Packers QB will be 30 years old, and the Jets traded for Davante Adams while Lazard was out with a chest injury.”
Lazard hasn’t proved to be worth the four-year, $44 million deal he signed in 2023, totaling 841 yards and seven touchdowns in two seasons.
Per Over The Cap, if Lazard was a post-June 1 cut, the Jets would get a cool $11 million in cap savings, which drops to $6.6 million is he is a pre-June 1 cut, so Glenn will have to work out if he wants to veteran to stick around in 2025.
With so many decisions to make, if Lazard is moved on, and maybe Davante Adams is, too, the receiver room might be a little thin.
But this new Jets regime might want a clean slate from the Rodgers era.
