Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham have made a signing which has delighted him this summer

Although Tottenham Hotspur are still at the very beginnings of their summer window, Ange Postecoglou has already been delighted with one piece of business.

According to reports, Spurs came into this summer hoping to primarily recruit a new defensive midfielder and wide-forward for Postecoglou.

However, as the summer progresses, and perhaps when interest starts to build for the likes of Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon, Tottenham could act on an ad hoc basis.

 

As well as the duo mentioned, both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Djed Spence are expected to leave too – four players surplus to Postecoglou’s plans.

And then there’s Richarlison, who won’t be pushed out of the door but his departure could create some exciting opportunities for Johan Lange and his team to reinvest.

That being said, Spurs have already parted with a significant figure to beat fierce competition to the signing of Leeds United’s Archie Gray – a considerable coup.

Bayern Munich were said to be monitoring the situation, as well as Brentford who had booked a medical, but Gray chose N17 – excited by Postecoglou’s project.

Gray seems likely to get a chance to start for Postecoglou in Wednesday’s meeting with Hearts.

And ahead of the game, Postecoglou praised Gray via Spurs Play, celebrating the attitude the 18-year-old has demonstrated in his career thus far.

The Tottenham manager admitted that the Championship was not an easy league to start your career in and stated that he was ‘super pleased’ that Spurs got their man.

Postecoglou said: “He was outstanding last year, probably the outstanding young player in the Championship, which is not an easy league, we know.

“I was super pleased that the club were able to do the deal in the end. He’s a great kid. Super young player, but also great attitude.”

Of course, Postecoglou has been equally delighted with Lucas Bergvall – another exciting talent to watch in pre-season.

And it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if the duo lined up alongside each other in Tottenham’s meeting with Hearts, with Gray wearing the #14 shirt, and Bergvall #15.

That being said, it seems as if Paris Saint-Germain may be about to spoil Postecoglou’s plans to sign Desire Doue as well.
