Gold Glove winner Alex Bregman remains on the open market despite receiving offers from at least three different Major League Baseball teams.
The two-time All-Star has spent his entire career with the Houston Astros, but comments made by general manager Dana Brown appeared to indicate the team had “lost” its star player earlier this week.
“During his address at the team’s annual media luncheon, Dana Brown twice spoke about Alex Bregman in the past tense, saying once that the team ‘lost Bregman,'” Rome reported.
“Asked to clarify, Dana Brown said ‘We’re continuing to have internal conversations because he’s still available.’ Brown said he hasn’t spoken to Scott Boras recently. Asked if Jim Crane had, Brown replied ‘I don’t know. Jim has not told me. I’m sure Jim would’ve told me.'”
Not long after that report, both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs jumped into the mix with four-year deals. “Sources have confirmed that the Cubs have offered Alex Bregman a four-year contract, with opt-outs, worth north of $100 million,” Jacob Zanolla of RealCubsInsider reported.
Chicago’s offer came after the Astros reportedly decided not to improve their six-year, $156 million offer. The Astros, though, appear to have had a change of heart.

During the 2024 season, Bregman posted a .768 OPS in 145 games while batting .260 with 26 home runs — the third most in his career — and 75 RBIs
