It was reported yesterday that Bayern Munich have issued an ultimatum to Alphonso Davies, whose contract in Bavaria expires at the end of the season.
Bayern have tabled an improved renewal offer for the Canadian international, but it will likely go in vain, as the player looks set to leave the club next summer.
Real Madrid are high on alert, but Barcelona, too, have lately been involved in the race to sign Davies, who has previously worked with Hansi Flick.
Flick pushes for Davies signing
According to a report from Sport BILD (h/t Diario SPORT), Flick has now urged Joan Laporta to push for the signing of Davies.
It appears the former Bayern Munich coach is keen on reuniting with the Canadian, widely regarded as one of the best fullbacks in Europe.
Despite Barcelona’s economic woes, the club are hopeful of competing with Real Madrid in the race to sign Davies.
The defender’s status as a free agent next summer could go a long way in aiding Barcelona’s position, though the competition from Real Madrid is going to be fierce.
Can Real Madrid withstand Barcelona competition?
Barcelona’s only hope of signing Davies will be to use the influence of Flick, who knows the player quite well and can convince him to make the move to Bavaria.
However, Real Madrid have the financial upper hand and have been trying to establish contact with the player for months now.
Given how Davies has been pushing for a better deal in Bavaria, one would argue that the player could prefer a move to the Spanish capital.
