Bayern Munich vs Tottenham LIVE!

Spurs step up their pre-season preparations with a potentially tough test against Bayern Munich in South Korea today. The match at Seoul World Cup Stadium forms part of the summer Coupang Play Series, with Tottenham also set to meet the Bundesliga giants on home soil in the Visit Malta Cup next weekend.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will hope to keep up a 100 per cent start to their friendly schedule on their successful tour of East Asia, having won a seven-goal thriller against a K-League XI in midweek after earning another narrow victory over reigning J1 League champions Vissel Kobe in Japan. Despite numerous ongoing international and injury absentees, Spurs also brushed aside both Hearts and QPR before travelling overseas.

There will be no reunion with ex-talisman Harry Kane this week with the England captain still on holiday after Euro 2024, but Eric Dier is on the bench against his former club as Postecoglou drafts in Radu Dragusin, Djed Spence and James Maddison. Bayern are also looking to kick on with a step up under new boss Vincent Kompany, having hit 14 goals past minnows Rottach-Egern and then been held by lowly FC Duren in their two friendlies to date. Ange Postecoglou: Bayern double-header is perfect Tottenham test

11:34 , George Flood

It is unusual to see two teams meeting twice in the space of a week during pre-season, with Tottenham also hosting Bayern Munich on home soil in the Visit Malta Cup next weekend.

Ange Postecoglou believes it will be a real chance for his Spurs team to see where they are at ahead of their Premier League opener away at newly-promoted Leicester on August 19, having boasted a 100 per cent record from four pre-season friendlies so far.

“I just think they’re a good opportunity for us against a very good opponent to just extend the work we’ve done in pre-season already and put it to practice in games,” Postecoglou said this week.

“I think there’ll be two different games here and in London.

“I think the conditions here will play a part on Saturday, obviously, but like I said, for us, it’s just a really good opportunity against a quality opponent to get ready for our first game against Leicester, which is a week later.”

South Korea team-mates Heung-min Son and Kim Min-jae in Seoul showdown

11:24 , George Flood

The showdown between South Korea team-mates Heung-min Son and Kim Min-jae is sure to attract a lot of interest in Seoul this afternoon.

There were ongoing rumours of a fallout between the pair last year, with Kim publicly and privately apologising to Son after a social media misunderstanding.

Asked about their showdown this week, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said: “It’s a game of football, not a tennis match.

“So it’s 11v11, I’m sure Sonny will enjoy the challenge of playing against his national team-mate.

“But at the same time knowing what Sonny’s like will be focused on making sure that we as a team perform at a good level and keep progressing and against a very good opponent who have got a lot of very good players.”

Spurs draft in Radu Dragusin, Djed Spence and James Maddison

Ange Postecoglou makes three changes to the Tottenham team that started Wednesday’s 4-3 victory over a K-League XI in Seoul.

Radu Dragusin got 20 minutes off the bench in that game and now comes into the defence in place of Emerson Royal.

Djed Spence is rewarded for an encouraging summer so far with a start at left-back as he fights for his Tottenham future, while James Maddison replaces young summer signing Lucas Bergvall in midfield.

Still no Richarlison or Destiny Udogie in the squad, but Oliver Skipp is fit enough for the bench after a knock.

There’s no Jamal Musiala just yet though, with Muller and Serge Gnabry supporting the youthful duo of Gabriel Vidovic and Mathys Tel in attack.

A look inside today’s venue, the 66,704-capacity Seoul World Cup Stadium in the South Korean capital – built in 2001 especially for the 2002 tournament.

It is home of both the South Korean national team and K-League 1 side FC Seoul.

Tottenham also played here in midweek of course, when Heung-min Son was on the scoresheet twice to go along with goals from Dejan Kulusevski and young Will Lankshear to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over a K-League XI.

Ange Postecoglou offers latest update on Heung-min Son contract

10:34 , George Flood

The headline topic from Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou’s pre-match press conference in Seoul this week was the future of captain Heung-min Son, whose current Tottenham contract is due to expire next summer with negotiations over an extension said to be ongoing amid rumoured transfer interest from Saudi Arabia.

But the manager was keen to insist that contracts are not his area of expertise as he also praised Ben Davies, who like Son has entered the final 12 months of his Spurs deal.

“Yeah, look, that’s not really my area, what I always do and what I’ve always done is irrespective of the contract situation of players is to you know, treat them all the same,” Postecoglou said.

“Ben and Sonny are an important part of this football club.

“We’ve got a really young team at the moment and we need some good experienced players around them and they’re two that certainly set the right example.

“And in terms of contracts I think that all gets sorted out at the appropriate time.

“But from my perspective, and I think the players’ perspectives themselves, we’re just focused on preparing for a big year.”

Bayern Munich vs Tottenham prediction

Spurs are so much further along in their pre-season plans that they should feel confident of claiming another morale-boosting victory in South Korea today.

It’s still very early in the summer comparatively for Vincent Kompany’s men, who remain without a host of key players.

Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, Rodrigo Bentancur and Micky van de Ven all remain absent for Tottenham in Seoul this afternoon.

It remains to be seen if either Richarlison or Destiny Udogie will be fit to feature, while the likes of Oliver Skipp and Ashley Phillips have also been dealing with knocks of late.

Bayern Munich team news

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has already confirmed that Harry Kane won’t play against his former club, having been afforded an extended break after reaching the Euro 2024 final with England this summer.

The DFB-Pokal cup game against SSV Ulm 1846 on August 16 is a more likely return date for the Three Lions skipper.

There is also no Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano or Kingsley Coman for Bayern, who are similarly missing Michael Olise, Leroy Sane and Matthijs de Ligt.

However, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala returned to pre-season training earlier this week, while Joao Palhinha is set for his debut after finally joining from Fulham in a £42.3m deal earlier this month.

Eric Dier will also be pushing to feature against his former club.

“Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman won’t be there, but then hopefully for the first cup game,” Kompany said at a press conference earlier this week.
