Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand wasn’t just skating circles around the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night; he was also making quick work of Paul Bissonnette’s friendly chirps.
The Bruins captain delivered two second-period goals in a 4–2 win over Chicago, using his performance to silence the playful taunts of the former player and current NHL on TNT analyst.
Bissonnette had mocked Marchand’s power-play struggles and humorously “suspended” him from contention for the show’s “Mr. TNT” in a hilarious segment aired before Wednesday’s matchup.
Marchand responded in style, delivering exactly the standout performance Bissonnette had jokingly challenged him to.
After the game, Marchand joined the TNT crew to cap off the fun.
“It feels great (scoring goals),” Marchand said. “It’s whatever it takes. I know you haven’t had that opportunity, but it feels good.
“I don’t mind riding coattails, just like you rode [Ryan] Whitney’s coattails all the way to Spittin’ Chiclets,” Marchand quipped, referencing Bissonnette’s podcast and his partner on it.
Bissonnette had previously told Marchand that it must feel good to have fellow Bruins forward David Pastrnak as a teammate feeding him good opportunities.
The banter didn’t stop there. Marchand reflected on how chirping was once a staple of every shift in his early days.
“It’s a fun part of the game that I miss nowadays,” Marchand said. “Back when we played against each other, it was every shift. That’s something I didn’t want to give up.”
Marchand’s two goals on Wednesday brought his season tally to 10 goals and 10 assists.
The Bruins, now winners of three straight, sit just three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division with a 14-11-3 record.
