The January transfer window is opening in just over a week’s time and that means we’re gearing up for more Victor Osimhen to Chelsea rumours.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the Nigerian frontman in the past few transfer windows, with his Napoli future regularly up in the air. Osimhen was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, having fallen out of favour with new Napoli head coach Antonio Conte.
He was deemed not to have a future in Naples, but with a hefty price tag on his shoulders, no club came in to sign him permanently. Instead he made the move to Turkey, to sign for Galatasaray on loan.
And the striker has shown his quality in Turkey with ten goals and five assists in 14 matches in all competitions. He netted a brace against Chelsea’s fierce rivals Tottenham in the Europa League.
There is a strange clause in Osimhen’s Galatasaray deal which allows him to cut the loan move short in January and sign permanently for another club, should they be one of the ten unnamed clubs written into the loan clause.
Chelsea, having been interested in the frontman in the past, are understood to be one of those clubs, but there are question marks now over whether the Blues need him or not.
Nicolas Jackson has got his adaptation season out of the way and is flourishing as Enzo Maresca’s first choice striker in the Premier League. The Senegalese has nine goals and three assists in 15 Premier League matches, showing exactly why Chelsea splashed out £30million on him.
And that’s not the only reason Osimhen now looks like a pointless piece of business at £62million – what his price tag is likely to be in January and next summer.
Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions this season is Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has 12 goals and four assists in all competitions, despite only playing 293 minutes of Premier League football in that time.
Chelsea spent £52million on Nkunku in 2023 and he is prolific despite not being first choice under Maresca. With Jackson in such fine form in the top flight and Nkunku scoring goals whenever he is called upon, Chelsea do not need to sign another striker in Osimhen, either in January or next summer.
