The holiday season will be extra special for Edmonton Oilers forward Kaspari Kapanen going forward.
The 28-year-old popped the question and is now engaged to Matleena Laakso.
The announcement was made in a joint Instagram post between the two. The happy couple posed by their Christmas tree in a variety of embraces, including one where Laakso is showing off her new ring.
The caption shows that the big question was popped on Christmas Eve. The two have photos together on social media dating back to late 2022. They have a cat named Yoshi together.
Laakso also posted a video to TikTok, which shows a better image of her new ring.
Laakso is a regular poster on social media and has garnered a following. She has roughly 20,000 followers across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. She often posts different lifestyle content showcasing travel and her day-to-day living.
Kapanen was originally born in Kuopio, Finland, and his new finacée is also Finnish.
While her hockey-playing partner appears in some videos, much of it is just her. One of her more popular videos shows a house that the two share in Finland.
The Oilers picked up Kapanen off waivers earlier this season. He has played 14 games for the team so far, scoring three goals and adding an assist for four points. Before joining his new team, he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and St. Louis Blues.
