Ohio State Among Favorites for SEC Quarterback Carson Beck in Transfer Portal
The Ohio State Buckeyes are reportedly one of the frontrunners to land SEC quarterback Carson Beck, who recently entered the transfer portal after initially planning to declare for the NFL Draft. Beck, recovering from a torn UCL and unable to throw until March, has left Georgia and is drawing interest from several top programs.
Heading into next season, Ohio State has just three scholarship quarterbacks: Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and incoming freshman Tavien St. Clair. This comes after Air Noland and Devin Brown entered the transfer portal, and Will Howard declared for the NFL Draft. The Buckeyes had previously acquired Sayin and Howard from the transfer portal, with Howard playing a key role in their current success.
According to Pete Nakos of ON3, Ohio State, Miami, and Texas Tech are considered leading contenders for Beck. While adding Beck could bring valuable experience to Ohio State’s quarterback room, some question whether pursuing him aligns with the team’s needs.
Beck’s 2024 season at Georgia included 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions—solid numbers, but not without criticism. Ohio State already has two highly talented five-star quarterbacks in Sayin and St. Clair, both of whom are expected to compete for playing time.
Miami is reportedly the frontrunner to secure Beck’s commitment, ahead of both Ohio State and Texas Tech. While the Buckeyes remain in the conversation, it would be surprising if they actively pursued Beck, given their existing quarterback talent and future plans.
Whether Beck ultimately lands in Columbus or elsewhere, his decision could have a significant impact on the quarterback landscape for the upcoming season.
