Everton have been exploring a number of deals this month as they look to strengthen David Moyes’ squad.
The Toffees have just put together consecutive Premier League victories to lift themselves seven points above the drop zone.
But David Moyes is insistent he still needs signings and has made it clear that the club cannot become complacent in the market, with rivals making a number of additions.
It’s thought Moyes is keen on Sunderland’s Dan Neil whilst the club are also looking at wide options, like Marcus Edwards.
Everton have been in contact with Brighton over a deal to sign Evan Ferguson, too, and now there’s been a fresh development on his situation.
Marseille now want to wrap up Evan Ferguson deal
According to transfer specialist Alan Nixon, Marseille are now set to rival Everton for the signing of Ferguson.
The French giants are keen to wrap up a loan deal for the Brighton and Hove Albion striker and they may have the edge over Everton due to Roberto De Zerbi.
The Marseille boss worked with Ferguson during their spell together on the south coast and had a great relationship.
It’s understood Brighton may be more willing to offload the Republic of Ireland international to Marseille rather than a Premier League rival.
So at this stage, Everton’s chances of signing the £60m-rated Ferguson are on thin ice.

Everton could turn attention to goal-scoring winger
Rather than signing a striker, Everton could now turn towards a goal-scoring winger as they’ve been keeping tabs on a number of them across the continent.
Everton have looked at Yunus Akgun, who is the Europa League’s top scorer, but Galatasaray don’t want to sanction his sale mid-season.
Baris Alper Yilmaz is also on The Toffees’ radar, but again, the Turkish giants are keen to retain his services.
Perhaps they could turn their attention back towards Ernest Nuamah having gone close to landing his signature earlier this month.
A telling week or so lies ahead.
