The Georgia Bulldogs faced the toughest schedule in the country this season, but they still managed to rack up 11 wins and secure another SEC Championship.
Along the way, the Bulldogs played in six ranked matchups and won four, defeating Clemson, Texas (twice) and Tennessee.
Now, as the second seed in the College Football Playoff, Kirby Smart’s squad awaits the winner of the No. 10 Indiana vs. No. 7 Notre Dame game to see who they’ll play in the quarterfinals Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl.
In the meantime, Georgia’s social media team announced Smart has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Award.
Smart continues to prove he’s one of the best in the game. In just nine seasons at Georgia, he’s led the team to two national championships and four College Football Playoff (CFP) appearances.
There’s no question why he’s college football‘s highest-paid head coach ($13 million). His overall record as the Bulldogs’ head coach is an impressive 105-18.
Before becoming head coach in Athens, the 48-year-old spent several years learning under the legendary Nick Saban at Alabama. He started as an assistant coach and defensive backs coach in 2007, then served as the defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2015.
Smart previously won the George Munger Award in 2017, when he won his first SEC championship and the Bulldogs finished 13-2, losing to Alabama in the national title game.
