Russia’s young tennis sensation Mirra Andreeva has warned world number one Iga Swiatek ahead of their clash at the Cincinnati Open. The 17-year-old is regarded as one for the future after producing some incredible results despite still ageing under 18.
Andreeva is currently playing at the Cincinnati Open, where she booked her place in the quarterfinal after beating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. With that win, she sets up a mouthwatering contest against the world number one Swiatek, who cemented her spot in the next round after beating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
It will be the first meeting between the two at the highest level, and therefore, the fans are in for a treat on Saturday. After securing her place in the last eight, Andreeva was quoted in a report stating that she is ready to face arguably the best player in women’s tennis in the next round. Andreeva stated that she is aware of Swiatek’s talent and confidence on the court but believes that she is very confident and cannot wait to get onto the centre court to face world number one.
