The Dallas Cowboys quietly have put together a notable list of changes following their 7-10 final record in 2024. Two long-time pieces have said their goodbyes.
The biggest departure was Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. The other biggest notable departure was DeMarcus Lawrence. Lawrence and Micah Parsons’ feud since Lawrence’s arrival in Seattle is a top story in the NFL in mid-March.
Lawrence accused the Cowboys of never being able to get to a Super Bowl. Parsons fired back to defend his team. As such, it appeared that the Seattle Seahawks’ newest notable star was on an island by himself. However, he appears to have backup from another recently exited member of the team.
Jourdan Lewis unleashes on Cowboys
Taking to Twitter/X on March 14, former Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis vented about “frustration” he felt with his former team.
“Highest rated slot coverage grade and all we did was match and man,” he initially posted.
Exactly 45 minutes later he made another post.
“I’m sorry y’all. This is about a decade of frustration, “I’m done.”
His first post appeared to be a shot at Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. However, his second post appeared to be pointed at the team in general and every defensive coordinator over the past decade.
The posts came one day after news broke that he would be joining the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jourdan Lewis departs Cowboys following mixed bag performance in 2024
While Jourdan Lewis has every right to be frustrated with the Dallas Cowboys failing to secure a Super Bowl push since he joined the team in 2017, the cornerback had a mixed bag of his own in his final campaign for Jerry Jones.
According to PFF, Lewis posted a 71.7 PFF grade, ranking 36th out of 223 cornerbacks. His coverage grade was impressive with a 79.0 grade, ranking 14th out of 223 cornerbacks. However, his troubles were with helping stop the run.
Lewis earned just a 45.0 PFF grade falling well below average and ranking 201st out of 223 cornerbacks. As a cornerback, Lewis’ primary job is to lock down his receiver or his zone depending on the play call.
However, if the team runs the ball, it falls on him lock block lanes and redirect the running back at the least. Sometimes, it falls on him to make the tackle.
He struggled more than most to do so. It will fall on the cornerback and the Jaguars to figure out how to boost his abilities or keep him off the field in situations where the opposition may run the ball.
