Is Browns WR Cooper ‘Most Underrated’ Offensive Player?
Who are some of the most “underrated” players in the NFL today? This is an age-old question often asked in the offseason. This year is no different, except the question is who are the “most underrated offensive players.”
According to “NFL Notifications” on Twitter, who published his top-five list of underrated players, Cleveland Browns receiver Amari Cooper is ranked No. 1, ahead of three other receivers and one quarterback.
The list goes as follows:
1. WR Amari Cooper
2. WR D.J. Moore
3. QB Tua Tagovailoa
4. WR Courtland Sutton
5. WR Jakobi Meyers
It is hard to argue against Cooper’s placement at No. 1. Two years after many may have questioned the Browns’ trade for him, he has turned out to be a bargain. While only playing in 12 games with starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, Cooper has totaled 2,410 yards and 14 touchdowns on 150 receptions.
Those numbers beat each of the other three receivers in that same two-year window. Meanwhile, Cooper’s contributions in Cleveland are arguably more impressive than what Tua Tagovalioa has done with the Miami Dolphins.
Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay has seemingly given credence to the notion Cooper is “underrated.” During his recent appearance on the “The Green Light with Chris Long” podcast, Slay called Cooper “underappreciated.”
“I really be thinking he’s the most underappreciated receiver in the league,” Slay said. “I’m seeing right now that Cleveland don’t want to pay him. They need to pay that man that money.”
While it is hard to argue against the notion that Cooper is underrated, considering the production he has enjoyed since being traded to Cleveland, does it mean the Browns aren’t appreciating him if they don’t extend his contract
