Several Los Angeles Chargers players and members of the team’s traveling party were forced to crawl through a ceiling panel to escape a stuck hotel elevator in downtown Dallas on Friday.

The team posted on social media that Dallas Fire-Rescue assisted the people on the elevator through the ceiling panel to an adjacent elevator around 7:30 p.m. Friday. According to WFAA, the incident occurred at The Westin on Main Street.

Fire department personnel were dispatched about 7:45 p.m., around when a 911 call was placed for an emergency where 15 people were trapped in an elevator at the hotel, he said in a statement.

An elevator technician tried getting the elevator running but was unsuccessful. The fire department’s urban search and rescue team had to be called to rescue those inside, Evans said.

The elevator car was stuck in a “blind shaft” between floors 3 and 15. Evans said the search and rescue team used a working car to ferry the passengers from where they were trapped. Everyone was rescued from the elevator by about 10:30 p.m., he said.

The Chargers are scheduled to play the Cowboys at 3 p.m. Saturday at AT&T Stadium in the final preseason game for both teams.

“The Los Angeles Chargers thank Dallas Fire-Rescue for their quick response, professionalism and substantial efforts ensuring everyone’s safety,” the team said.
