The New York Yankees are still trying to adjust to life without Juan Soto after he agreed to a record-breaking deal with the New York Mets. General manager Brian Cashman has several options he could explore as backup plans now that the ideal path to building his roster isn’t happening. Could it include trading for Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm?
Jazz Chisholm Jr. took over third base after getting acquired by the Yankees at the 2024 trade deadline. But with first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Gleyber Torres on the open market, New York has some work to do on its infield.
If the Yankees land Bohm, he could be installed at the hot corner. That would let Chisholm slide over to second base or center field since New York plans on moving Aaron Judge to right field.
Who might the Yankees have to part with to bring Bohm to the Bronx? Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter shared the following proposal as part of his Juan Soto backup plan:
– Yankees receive: third baseman Alec Bohm
– Phillies receive: left-handed pitcher Nestor Cortes, left-handed pitcher Brock Selvidge and outfielder Everson Pereira
Cortes could immediately help Philadelphia’s starting rotation, while Selvidge (seventh) and Pereira (10th) are among the Yankees’ top 10 prospects, according to MLB.com.
Bohm would give the Yankees an affordable multi-year solution at third base. Although the 28-year-old’s production dipped in the second half, he still slugged 15 home runs with 44 doubles and 97 RBI during an All-Star campaign.
Spotrac is estimating his current market value for a long-term deal at seven years and $142 million. However, he’s under team control via arbitration through 2026 and is projected to earn just $8.1 million next season.
