Mercedes legend Lewis Hamilton has expressed his desire to refrain from participating in Formula 1 beef and let his driving speak for itself. That’s after being quizzed about how he deals with constant criticism after almost two decades at the head of his field.

The seven-time world champion, who has a massive global following, is no stranger to the rigour of fame nor the critiques that accompany it. But despite detractors and critics consistently hoping for his downfall, the Ferrari-bound icon utilises his wisdom to rise above the whispers and scepticism.

Hamilton referenced the silent battles he faces while at a press event before the recent United States Grand Prix. It was there the veteran was quizzed about how he deals with those who disparage him, either in the media or among his fellow drivers.

“God knows how many people continuously talk [s***] about me,” said the British superstar. “In the media or drivers, whatever it may be.

“And you know what? There’s no point in replying. I just try and do it in how I show up. And it’s probably the same for all of you, it’s about how you show up and do what you do.”

The 39-year-old enjoyed an unrivalled period of dominance throughout the 2010s, scooping up six world titles in the space of seven years. It’s perhaps unsurprising those feats drew the envy of many within the racing community – but the cycle always moves on.

Despite Mercedes’ unexpected decline in recent years, Hamilton has benefited from one silver lining. The shift in focus towards Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and his reign of superiority has eased the scrutiny on Hamilton.

Verstappen has won three consecutive world titles and become an easy target for critics. However, Hamilton is eyeing a return to the top spot and aims to finally surpass Michael Schumacher’s joint-title record when he joins Ferrari – Schumi’s legendary former team – in 2025.

Already considered one of the greatest drivers in history, Hamilton has no need to engage in public disputes despite any negativity directed towards him. And the racing icon can be sure he will have a legion of fans cheering him on as he seeks to reclaim his position at the pinnacle of F1 when he begins anew with Ferrari next year.
