Los Angeles Rams Shock Fans: Les Snead Stands by Decision to Sign Davante Adams, Move on from Cooper Kupp

Posted on March 19, 2025 by admin

The Los Angeles Rams made waves this offseason by making a controversial decision—parting ways with star wide receiver Cooper Kupp and replacing him with six-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams. The move sent shockwaves through the NFL community, as Kupp had been a cornerstone of the Rams’ offense since 2017. Despite the outcry from fans, Rams general manager Les Snead remains steadfast in his decision, believing the change will position the team for another Super Bowl run.

Why the Rams Moved on from Cooper Kupp

Kupp, the 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl LVI MVP, has been a dominant force for the Rams over the years. However, injuries have significantly impacted his availability in recent seasons. After a historic 2021 campaign in which he led the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdowns (16), Kupp has struggled to stay on the field.

In the 2024 season, Kupp played only 12 games, tallying 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns. While still productive, these numbers were a far cry from his peak years. The Rams reportedly attempted to trade Kupp before releasing him, but his injury history and contract made it difficult to find a suitor. Rather than keeping him on the roster with a hefty cap hit, the team opted to move on.

“Cooper has been an incredible player for us, and we’re grateful for everything he’s done,” Snead said in a statement. “But we have to make tough decisions to keep this team competitive in the long run.”

The Davante Adams Acquisition

Shortly after Kupp’s release, the Rams wasted no time securing his replacement. They signed Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal with $26 million guaranteed. The 31-year-old receiver was recently released by the New York Jets, allowing the Rams to swoop in and add a proven playmaker to their roster.

Adams has been one of the NFL’s most consistent receivers over the past decade. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in seven of the last eight seasons, including a 2024 campaign in which he recorded 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns on 85 receptions. Known for his elite route running and ability to win one-on-one matchups, Adams is expected to provide an immediate boost to the Rams’ offense.

For head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford, the addition of Adams presents an opportunity to reshape the passing attack. He will join emerging star Puka Nacua and speedster Tutu Atwell in a revamped wide receiver corps.

Les Snead’s Confidence in the Move

Despite the backlash from fans who were emotionally attached to Kupp, Snead stands by his decision. “We’re always looking at ways to improve the roster,” he stated. “Davante is a player who can come in and help us win now.”

While only time will tell if this move pays off, the Rams are betting big on Adams—and a future without one of their most beloved stars.
