Luka Doncic being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers stunned the NBA on Saturday night and even the star guard was unaware that the move was in the works. The Lakers landed Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris in the blockbuster, per Shams Charania of ESPN. LA sent the Mavericks star big man Anthony Davis, along with young guard Max Christie and a first-round pick in 2029. The Jazz were a third team involved in the deal, getting Jalen Hood-Schifino and a pair of second-round picks. Charania revealed that Doncic was not consulted on the move and was “stunned” by the trade to LA. “This deal materialized in the shadows,” Charania said. “It’s a fact – LeBron James had no idea this was coming. Anthony Davis had no idea this was coming. I’m told Luka Doncic is still stunned about this trade.” James was reportedly out to dinner following the Lakers’ win on Saturday against the New York Knicks when he found out about the trade for Doncic. “LeBron James learned of the Davis-Doncic trade after the Knicks game when it broke while he was out to dinner with his family,” Dave McMenamin of ESPN wrote on X. “James was surprised by the news, is processing it and had no idea it was in the works.” Doncic is just 25 years old and a perennial All-NBA talent. He’s averaged 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.3 over his career so far. Doncic is currently dealing with a calf strain and he hasn’t played since suffering the injury on Christmas. In 22 games this season Doncic has averaged 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists
