It doesn’t appear that goaltender Joseph Woll is ready to return to action in the immediate future.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Craig Berube addressed the media ahead of their home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins and stated that the goaltender has not been on the ice since being placed on injured reserve.
Berube added that the goaltender’s status remains day-to-day.
Ahead of Toronto’s 1-0 seasoning-opening loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, Woll was placed on injured reserve with “lower-body tightness” according to the team.
The Leafs called up 23-year-old goaltending prospect Dennis Hildeby and he called up Anthony Stolarz on Wednesday. Hildeby made his NHL debut in a 4-2 victory against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
Although Thursday marked Berube’s first win as head coach of the Leafs, the game puck went to the Swedish goaltender.
“It went to ‘The Beast’, Berube explained. “Well deserved.” After being placed on injured reserve, Woll is required to sit out a minimum of seven days, so he was ineligible to return to action on Saturday anyway, but the reveal that he hasn’t been on the ice at all isn’t a good sign of any possible return for the club’s fourth game of the season against the Los Angeles Kings.
