The 2024 edition of the US Open has reserved sensational surprises from the first rounds, in the men’s singles. Surprises that led to the shocking eliminations of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic (the Serb was the defending champion).

Daniil Medvedev was the last player in chronological order to qualify for the round of 16 of the New York Major, a tournament he has already won in 2021. The Russian tennis player eliminated the Italian Flavio Cobolli in three sets. And inevitably after the match he was asked for his opinion on the early eliminations of the two rivals, respectively by Botic Van de Zandschulp and Alexei Popyrin. And the Russian tennis player gave his interpretation of the situation in the traditional courtside interview after the conclusion of the match won by three sets to zero against the Italian Cobolli.

“For me, surprises don’t count, we know that the conditions here are a bit complicated, perhaps here the favorites have less margin than the others, so we have to be more cautious. I know that if I play well I can win everything, but if I don’t play well I can lose against anyone. I just have to play in the best way possible and try to win,” he said.
