Newcastle must be feeling that they can sign ‘outstanding’ player after bids made

Newcastle United fans have certainly been made to wait patiently this summer when it comes to the transfer market.

Despite having the extreme wealth behind the club, Newcastle have not exactly lit up the transfer window so far.

Eddie Howe has expressed his concerns with the club only bringing in a free transfer in Lloyd Kelly and two backup goalkeepers.

The new season is now just a matter of hours away for the Magpies who will be welcoming the newly-promoted Southampton to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

But the home fans should not be expecting to see any big name new signings on display with the Toon going into the final two weeks still waiting on a big breakthrough.

Newcastle offered encouragement they could sign ‘outstanding’ player

Newcastle have recently lodged a fresh bid for Marc Guehi this week but saw Crystal Palace reject their offer.

But the wait goes on for Newcastle as they now face a tense final couple of weeks before the window shuts at the end of the month.

There may be some optimism around Tyneside as Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now shared his insight on their pursuit of Guehi.

The Toon have now lodged a third bid for the Crystal Palace defender and, although it was not rejected, Newcastle may be taking confidence from Palace not shutting the door completely.

“Having said that, for Newcastle United to go in once, twice, three times, they must be getting some sort of encouragement somewhere that there is potentially a deal to be done,” said Sheth.

“Steve Parish had said, Marc Guehi is not making any noises, and he’s loyal to Palace, and he’s not rocking the boat at all, which is credit to Marc because he’s under contract at Crystal Palace.”

Newcastle now have to go all out for Marc Guehi

For Newcastle to be increasing the increments of their bids by such narrow margins it could suggest they are not too far away from striking a deal.

Guehi is going to demand big money this summer. Whether Newcastle like it or not, if they want to sign the ‘outstanding‘ defender, they are going to have to cough up.

The England international enjoyed a sensational Euros campaign with the Three Lions which certainly may have added a few extra million onto his price tag.

But Guehi is still only 24-years-old and would offer Newcastle a starting centre-back for years to come.

Newcastle have pondered in this summer market for too long. Now, it is time for the Toon to get going and make a statement by going all out for Guehi.
