Newcastle suffer fresh injury blow after 2-1 success over Tottenham Hotspur

Posted on September 2, 2024 by admin

Newcastle United secured an excellent 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Harvey Barnes provided a 37th-minute breakthrough for his team when he struck a brilliant goal on the break.

Spurs levelled the scores early in the second-half with centre-back Dan Burn slicing Brennan Johnson’s shot into his own goal.

However, the Magpies had the last laugh as Alexander Isak netted the winner with a tap-in in the 78th-minute.

The home victory didn’t come without a cost though, as Emil Krafth picked up a minor injury in that game.

According to the Chronicle Live, the injury has forced the defender out of the two Nations League fixtures for Sweden.

The 30-year-old had been picked by manager Jon Dahl Tomasson for the games against Azerbaijan and Estonia in September, but he will now be replaced by Ludogorets Razgrad Edvin Kurtulus.

Krafth started the previous two Premier League fixtures for Newcastle in the absence of Fabian Schar, who has been ruled out for a month after being shown a red card for violent conduct in the match against Southampton.

The Magpies will be hoping the Swedish footballer’s injury isn’t serious and he could return to the team soon.

Eddie Howe’s side wanted to bring in a top central defender this summer and were locked in lengthy negotiations with Crystal Palace over a move for Marc Guehi.

However, they ultimately failed to finalise a move for the England international despite making a club-record £70 million bid.
