NFL Announces Punishment for Cowboys-Eagles Brawl

Posted on January 5, 2025 by admin

Things typically tend to get as little heated whenever the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles play each other, and that’s exactly what happened last week.

The Cowboys went into Philadelphia and got boat-raced 41-7 at Lincoln Financial Field, and tempers ran hot near the end of the game, which resulted in multiple players being ejected.

Following a 42-yard Cowboys punt that landed in the end zone with 2:32 left to play, Cowboys receiver Jalen Brooks grabbed Eagles safety Sydney Brown by the waist and flung him to the turf.

While they were up, Brooks shoved Brown, as did Cowboys cornerback Troy Pride who pushed Brown by the helmet, which prompted him to grab Pride and sling him to the turf as they both tumbled into the tunnel while officials and other Cowboys players jumped into the dust-up.

Several officials and a police officer were even drug into the pile as multiple punches were being thrown.

While all three players were ejected, the NFL handed out harsher discipline on Saturday as they fined Brown $6,981, Pride $5,198, and Brooks $5,083 for unnecessary roughness.

Since no additional punishment was announced, it’s unlikely any of the other players who jumped into the pile in the tunnel will face any disciplinary action despite the NFL stating in a memo issued last October that players or team personnel joining an existing fight could be “subject to more significant accountability measures.”

The league issued the memo after Week 6 when two fights broke out between the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns, and the Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers.

The NFL threatened significant punishment for players or teams involved in any kind of brawls before or during games, stating “fighting is irreconcilable with the league’s values and is never acceptable.”
