The Oklahoma Sooners lost a lot of players going into the 2025 offseason. But, it’s important that they retain the players that they need to retain. And, so far, they have done that a good bit.
This defense was one of the best in the entire country. Sometimes, it may have not looked that way, and that’s because the offense consistently put them in bad positions. And, in the SEC, that just can’t happen. So, why not bring back some players on that elite defense that helped make it what it was?
They are doing that with a star player on the defensive line.
Oklahoma Sooners DT Damonic Williams returns for 2025
Damonic Williams began his college football career with the TCU Horned Frogs before transferring to Oklahoma. During his tenure at TCU, Williams made a significant impact, starting all 12 games in 2023, accumulating 33 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks, which earned him an honorable mention All-Big 12. His standout performance made him one of the premier defensive tackles in the transfer portal upon his decision to move.
After entering the transfer portal, Williams chose Oklahoma over offers from Texas, LSU, and Missouri. His transfer was viewed as a major enhancement to the Sooners’ defensive line, particularly timely as they geared up for the SEC transition. In his debut season at Oklahoma, Williams started all 12 games, recording 33 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble.
His influence has been crucial in bolstering the Sooners’ defense, especially in the interior. Known for his leadership, he has quickly established himself among his peers during summer training sessions. Now, he is on his way back to Norman, where the Sooners will need him more than ever.
There’s a lot of change coming to the Sooners’ football program. And, keeping some of the same players around, and keeping continuity is a good idea, especially on the side of the ball that was the best for them.
Williams posted a hype video announcing his return that was special and one that Sooners fans will love.
